In 1972, John Harrington pioneered Socially Responsible Investing in California by writing the first state report on South African apartheid and U.S. corporate involvement. This report resulted in one of the largest divestitures in the nation’s history, ultimately aiding in the democratization of South Africa and the death of apartheid.
Ten years later John founded Harrington Investments, Inc on the premise that what people invest in can have a huge impact on governments, laws, economics, and on creating more just societies around the world. HII was incorporated as a family corporation in 1984.
Today, Harrington Investments continues to be committed to insuring that our client’s assets are invested in companies that have a positive impact on society. With over $160 million in assets under management and a growing loyal client base, HII is poised to provide investment management services to social investors long into the future.
